I received an Advanced Reading Copy of "The Good Cop" by Brad Parks a few days ago as a winner of the Goodreads giveaway for the book. This is the first book by Brad Parks that I have ever read and am interested in reading the other titles that feature this main character.

The Good Cop is an interesting read, the characters are engaging and the book moves along at a really great pace. I finished the book in one night. There we’re some inconsistencies and a few typos but that was to be expected in an advanced reading copy.

A Newark investigative reporter named Carter Ross gets a wakeup call to respond to the death of a police officer by interviewing his wife and family. Then a few hours later he gets another call being told to drop the story because the officer killed himself.

Being that Carter is a good reporter and the fact that after talking to the officer’s family suicide doesn’t make sense to him, Carter won’t let the story go.

He continues to investigate and meets with resistance in the form of some very interesting people.
The story itself is a really good one, I liked it tremendously. It was very different from most of the mysteries that I am used to but it was a nice change of pace. With all of the twists and turns I really connected with the quirky characters and was drawn in immediately and I liked the fact that I couldn’t figure out the “whodunit”.

The only problem was the way some of the characters just kind of dropped out of the story without closure. I felt unsatisfied by the way they just went away, there was some disconnect to it and it felt unresolved. I also felt like the ending was a little abrupt the way the book ended left me with questions that I’m kind of frustrated by.

Overall, I like the book I just wish it would have had a more satisfying ending to it.
